EV-DO (Evolution Data Only) is a technology for data transfer that gives the possibility to be mobile and have a broadband access to internet at high speed from any place of the territory under coverage. Using a 3G cellular communication network one can transfer information ten times faster than by ordinary dial-up lines and at the same pace as by the widespread technology ADSL. And it is wireless!

Viktor Pogorelov who is deputy chief of the mobile network commutation center of BelCel JV Ltd. has stated: “Using this technology it is possible to watch films and concerts on-line, to see what is going on in distant offices where video cameras are installed.”

BelCel JV Ltd. is the only company offering this technology in Belarus.

Deputy chief of the IT department Sergei Kadomski said: “We are still testing this new technology. Theoretically it is possible to achieve a 2,4 Mbps speed in EV-DO networks. At the commercial exhibition “TIBO-2006” we managed to achieve a speed of 2 Mbps, which is very good for a network that is still at the stage of test operation. Visitors of our stand at the exhibition could look through WEB-pages, send and receive emails and download big files. Moreover they could watch a film on-line and listen to the Internet radio, use Skype for IP telephony. It took us 40 seconds to download a five-minute MP3 file and we were watching the RBK- TV channel without any disturbance and slowing down.”

The director general of the company I. P. Bezrutchenok has given the following comments upon the exhibition: “As a result of this exhibition one can be confident that the technology of high-speed wireless data transfer gives new boundless opportunities for those who are running a business in Belarus, as well as for people who are just interested in new technologies.”
